In celebration of Mole Day, please join CGSC at the 2nd Annual Mole Day Hike Saturday, October 21st from 9:00AM. We will be hiking the Torrey Pines Beach Trail, and we will have snacks and light refreshments!

The hike will take approximately 1.5 hours and we plan to take a brief break at the end of the trail before we head back. You are welcome to stay at the beach with your friends or head back to campus with us. We should be back on campus by 12:00PM.

Please RSVP at this link and let us know if you are willing to help with carpools! We will be meeting at the NSB parking lot, in between Pacific Hall and NSB so we can all head out together.

We hope to see you there and celebrate Mole Day!!

Directions to NSB Parking lot: walk towards NSB or Pacific Hall and head to the NSB courtyard. The parking lot is located directly adjacent to the courtyard, and you will see us waiting for you!

Halloween Social and Costume Contest 👻

Friday, October 27th at 4:30PM [RSVP Below!!]

Spooky times approach us in the Chem department at UCSD, and we want to see your best Walter White/NASA astronaut/Dr. Frankenstein impressions! Please join CGSC and the department at our first-ever Halloween Social, which will take place on Friday, October 27th, from 4:30PM-6:00PM (location is TBD). There will be free food(!) and drinks sponsored by CGSC, but more importantly, some Halloween cookies made by CGSC member, Darius!

Since we want to see your best costumes and impressions, we will be holding a costume contest for the best dressed, as voted by your Chem/Biochem peers. Winners can expect Amazon gift cards, so make sure you coordinate with your friends, wear something mysterious, sinister, frightening, and downright bone-chilling, and come prepared to vote for your peers.

Please RSVP at this link and let us know your dietary restrictions so that we can make sure we have enough of the right food for you!

We hope to see you there for some spooky socializing<3

Your Go-To Tips for Mental Health

Months of September/October

September and October mark the start of the school year, and we want everyone to succeed in 2023/4. We encourage you to take at least half an hour out of every day to step away from chemistry and give yourself a little break; your mind (and your work) will appreciate you for it. Do some yoga or meditate, read your favorite book, or take in the beautiful San Diego views while it’s still “San Diego Summer”! The Scripps Pier is looking awfully beautiful at sunset these days 😉. You may even see a few of us there!

We are also delighted to announce the upcoming volume of the Department Zine and we would be happy to include your submissions this quarter! Please email your designs to Emily Latif (elatif@ucsd.edu) or visit her in the Romero Lab in the Tata Hall basement to drop off your hand-drawn masterpieces! We’re super excited to see what this quarter means to you and what impact you hope to leave on the UCSD community. More announcements will be made about where you can pick up your copy closer to the end of the quarter, so check back here for the latest!

Do you have any mental health tips that are working for you?? Share your tips for mental health with fellow grad students on the posters at Urey, Pac Hall, NSB and Tata Hall elevators  - no more boredom at the elevator! Feel free to doodle on the posters as well- we look forward to the collective art work from all of you.
